In many Malawian homes, a good meal is about more than just food — it is about togetherness, warmth, and care. This Honey-Glazed Chicken recipe brings those values to life, combining the natural sweetness of Kwithu Kitchen Natural Honey with simple, everyday ingredients to create a dish that feels both special and familiar.
Our honey is proudly sourced and processed in Malawi, supporting local beekeepers and communities. Its rich, floral flavour makes it perfect for both sweet and savoury cooking — and this recipe is one of our favourites.
Why Cook with Natural Honey?
Unlike refined sugar, natural honey adds depth, aroma, and balance to dishes. It caramelises beautifully, locks in moisture, and brings out the natural flavours of meat. When you cook with Kwithu Kitchen Natural Honey, you’re not just adding sweetness — you’re adding nourishment and purpose.
Honey-Glazed Chicken Recipe
Serves: 4–6 people
Perfect for family lunches, Sunday meals, or special gatherings.
- 1 whole chicken, cut into pieces (or 1 kg chicken portions)
- 3 tbsp Kwithu Kitchen Natural Honey
- 2 tbsp cooking oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, crushed
- 1 tsp black pepper
- Salt to taste
- ½ cup water or light stock
- Optional: 1 tsp soy sauce or lemon juice for balance
method
-
Prepare the chicken
Wash and season the chicken with salt and black pepper. Set aside. -
Sauté the base
Heat oil in a large pot or pan. Add the chopped onion and cook until soft and golden. Stir in the garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant. -
Add the honey
Lower the heat slightly and add the Kwithu Kitchen Natural Honey. Stir gently, allowing it to melt and blend with the onions and garlic without burning. -
Cook the chicken
Add the chicken pieces to the pot and turn them to coat evenly in the honey mixture. Allow them to cook for 5–7 minutes until lightly browned. -
Simmer to perfection
Add water or stock, cover, and let the chicken simmer on low heat for 25–30 minutes, turning occasionally. The sauce will thicken into a glossy glaze. -
Balance the flavours (optional)
If desired, add a small splash of soy sauce or lemon juice to balance the sweetness. -
Finish and serve
Once the chicken is tender and the sauce is rich and sticky, remove from heat.
“Kwithu Kitchen honey is the real deal. You can taste the difference from the first spoon — rich, natural, and not overly sweet. I use it in my tea, cooking, and even for my children’s breakfast, and it always adds a beautiful flavour. Knowing that it supports local women and farmers makes it even better.”
Cooking Tip from Kwithu Kitchen
Avoid very high heat once the honey is added — gentle cooking allows the honey to caramelise slowly without burning, giving you a smooth, golden glaze.
